Lissone, Italy – April 18, 2019 - Alfamation, a provider of state-of-the-art turnkey test and measurement solutions, has won an order for the delivery of functional testers to a leading automotive Tier 1 supplier of battery management systems (BMS) for Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries.
Alfamation’s market-proven battery test systems evaluate batteries as a complete system and validate a comprehensive range of battery-pack functionalities. This includes simulating the required sensors and battery cell stack inputs, including: battery pack voltage and current, isolation test and high voltage application, individual pack/cell temperature, external power delivery and state of charge (SoC). The Alfamation system then measures, collects and processes digital and analog outputs produced by the BMS based on these inputs and provides safe, real-time monitoring of the test process.
The Alfamation system is flexible and modular, combining both hardware and data management, and is based on the company’s Hyperion platform deployed on end-of-line/production test stations. It incorporates Alfamation’s Supernova test application software, along with flexible and reliable components and instruments. This means it can be used to create systems that are completely customizable to the end user’s requirements.
The system will be used for functional testing to verify battery pack communication, data reporting, safety features and component functions. It will also carry out high power battery cycling to evaluate the power characteristics of battery packs, as well as environmental and endurance testing of battery packs.
A tailored single or dual press test fixture has been designed to permit several devices under test (DUTs) to be tested using the same base hardware and using interchangeable fixtures via high-reliability ODU-MAC connectors. This substantially reduces system cost and lead times.
The test system provides high voltage, customizable voltage ranges from 12V-40Ah, 12V-60Ah and 48V.
Furthermore, its flexibility means that it can be upgraded and reconfigured for various current and voltage ranges, battery clamps and other aspects.
The Alfamation system provides a rapid response, with a response time of less than 20ms. For models with a current range of less than 12A, the response time is even lower, i.e. less than 1ms. It provides 0.05% full-scale accuracy for both current and voltage. The data acquisition frequency is 10Hz, with 100Hz optional, with a minimum pulse width of 500ms.
